In 2012 I returned for a visit to Burning Man to further document the thousands of volunteers who build, maintain and deconstruct the annually temporary Black Rock City. Every year they venture back to the desert in the NE corner of Nevada spending anywhere from 3 – 5 weeks working for room and board and the greater satisfaction of being part of something greater than themselves.
This being my second time there I had a clearer idea of what and where I wished to document. I began by photographing the different support groups that provide services from electrical power to food and water. Half way through my stay one of my lenses broke. It left me with a focal view in the telescopic range. It was the right kind of karma as it reminded me to now photograph individuals as well. These images are the results.
